(1) Salary for the mayor is fixed at $250.00 per month. Effective January 1, 2022, the salary for the mayor shall be $500.00 per month.

(2) Salaries for members of the council are fixed at $100.00 per month. Provided, however, in accord with the provisions of Article XI, Section 8, and Article XXX, Section 1, of the Washington State Constitution, the salaries for members of the council shall remain at $50.00 per month during the term in which the council adopted the increase set forth herein; this prohibition applies even to a person appointed or elected to complete an unexpired term.

(3) The mayor or any member of the council may waive all or any portion of his or her compensation payable under this chapter as to any month or months during his or her term of office, by a written waiver filed with the clerk-treasurer as provided in this section. The waiver, to be effective, must be filed any time after the elected official’s election and prior to the date on which the compensation would otherwise be paid. The waiver shall specify the month or period of months for which it is made. In the event that an elected official elects to waive compensation hereunder, he or she shall be treated as a volunteer would be for purposes of applicable payroll taxes.
